198 was established as a social space for the Black community following the Brixton uprisings of the 1980’s. Community is at the heart of what we do and we engage local residents through various activities such as a weekly arts and crafts club and Tai Chi as well as providing opportunities for participation through volunteering.
We provide space for tenants and residents meetings, community events and offer affordable hire space for local groups and individuals. We also have strong relationships with local schools and community groups offering workshops and guided tours of our exhibitions.

198 Contemporary Arts & Learning have a number of attractive spaces available to hire at competitive rates.

We offer 2 gallery spaces, a media suite and meeting room all of which are perfect for events  such as –  Seminars and training workshops, Meetings, Social Functions, Xmas parties, Craft fairs, Film screenings, Photo shoots, Yoga retreats and more. Our facilities have full disabled access and include two bathrooms and a small kitchen area.

Two Gallery Spaces with a capacity for 150 people. Available during December and at other times throughout the year subject to negotiation. £150 per half day or evening £250 per full day £400 per weekend £1000 per week. (An additional keyholder charge of £10 per hour will be charged for evening and weekend hires).

Meeting room seating a maximum of 20 people with facility for projection from laptop. Available  Monday – Friday evenings and all weekend. £30 per hour (minimum 2 hrs). (An additional keyholder charge of £10 per hour will be charged for evening and weekend hires).

Media studio with 10 Mac computer workstations with Adobe CC and Microsoft office. Technical assistance and trainers are available on request. Available Monday – Friday evenings and all weekend. £150 per half day / £300 per full day. (An additional keyholder charge of £10 per hour will be charged for evening and weekend hires).
