Isha Blake – Rationale To Madness

28 November 2013 – 12 December 2013

Through an explorative personal journey, the photographer Isha Blake, shares with us a series of distinct events in her life alluding to ephemeral and multiple psychological states, sexuality and adolescent development. Within a new body of work – that consists photography, text, video and mixed media installations – Isha unveils significant parts of herself in order to draw attention to individuality, recognition of self and identity.

Most importantly, this exhibition is a visual articulation of transitional moments in a young person’s life dealing with BPD (Borderline Personality Disorder). Enclosed in this transitional state, Isha is working towards expressing and accepting herself, as well as increasing her self-esteem.

In this exhibition Isha is simultaneously aiming to reach out to young people dealing with mental illness and raise awareness of the difficulties a young person may face while growing up. In this way, she is aspiring to help them find themselves by reflecting on her own journey and investigating the formative experiences of adolescence.

At the same time, a series of sessions and workshops will take place, targeting at young people that are currently attending the Pupil Referral Centre that the artist attended, as well as young persons that surround her enviroment. Isha will intent to raise questions on various subjects but also reveal, ‘how feels to keep it all to myself’ or ‘feeling your thoughts cannot be controlled or are not your own’.
