Rite for a New World | Reading Group
Saturday, 14 Jun 2025

As part of the exhibition Rites for a New World, 198 Contemporary Arts & Learning presents a series of events that expand on the exhibition’s themes of ritual, resistance, and speculative futures. Bringing together artists, curators, and the wider public, these gatherings invite deeper engagement with the creative processes, ideas, and lived experiences that shape the works on show.
Through conversation, reading, and collective reflection, the programme offers multiple ways to inhabit and respond to the worlds being built within the gallery.
This reading group explores ideas of ritual, speculation, and world-building in times of uncertainty. Together, we’ll engage with selected texts and concepts that resonate with the exhibition—from ancestral knowledge and speculative fiction to embodied resistance and ecological grief.
Led in an informal and welcoming setting, the group is open to anyone curious to reflect, share, or simply listen. No prior reading is required, all welcome.
