TOOLs – Performance: Instruments of Power

Join us for a live performance of Instruments of Power (IOP) by Ella Wanendeya as part of the closing programme for TOOLs, a multidisciplinary group exhibition featuring Ella Wanendeya, Fi Sonola, and Kialy Tihngang, curated by Shane Sutherland.

IOP is a living sonic archive presented through a series of touch-activated metal vocal pad instruments. When activated, voices from different generations of Wanendeya’s family emerge, allowing distant pasts and unborn futures to intersect. Through improvisational sound and tactile interaction, the work draws on Ugandan oral storytelling traditions to create space for memory, resonance, and diasporic continuity.

During this special performance, Wanendeya will activate the installation in a short live set within the gallery.
