BREATHLESS

31st July 2018 6:30pm – 9:30pm

Breathless is part of an ongoing project which takes shape through a collaboration developed with Christopher Kirubi, Adam Farah, Chloe Filani, Shenece Oretha and Rhoda Boateng, working together as artists and friends meeting regularly to discuss spaces of desire, of community, and of action. Through poetry, sound and performance they seek to trace often hidden spaces of intimacy and carve out new ones – both private and shared.

Christopher, Adam, Chloe, Shenece, and Rhoda bring Breathless, an evening hosted at 198 Contemporary Arts & Learning, which will consist of two parts; the first will see the group launch their mixtape Breathless Mix, a collection of sounds and voices from a previous production RUSH, as well as the conversations that have continued since. The second will take the form of an open mic session during which we seek to prioritise and hold space for the voices of black women and queer black folk. We invite those who find themselves in need of it to share words, poems, songs and moments of their own or by others.

Food cooked by the group, as well as copies of the mixtape will be available to take away from the event, feel free to bring tupperware. If you wish to share during the open mic session, please contact the group at rushpoetry2018@gmail.com, there will also be time available on the night.
