Minor Transitions An exhibition exploring the journey through adolescenceCentral Saint Martins BA Criticism, Communication and Curation and 198 Contemporary Arts and Learning are pleased to present Minor Transitions, an exhibition exploring adolescence as a tense and transitional period in life. Inspired by the rebellion and creativity experienced in this shifting interval between childhood and adulthood, Minor Transitions aims to create a space to generate conversations and reflections on contemporary youth culture.‘VOICED’ by Kamau Baaqi uses voxpops recordings of people speaking about their personal adolescent aspirations, happenings and movements, within youth culture and the value of young people to wider society. Blended within an electronic soundtrack, Baaqi mixes the voices with sounds from London streets. A bold and provocative collection of Illustrations and graphic work by young artists, offer a reflexive and humorous mirror on the aesthetic of an imagined teenager’s bedroom wall. Motoko Ishibashi’s painting combines icons reminiscent of childhood innocence with those of adult sexuality, subtly harmonising the clashes between these two very different worlds. A compilation of videos sourced from YouTube including ‘I’m Inspired’ by Exposure showcases some of the concerns and passions of young people around the world today. Visitors are invited to linger in the space and reflect on their own adolescent experience, peruse books, zines and magazines which have inspired the artists, curators, and wider youth movements represented in the exhibition. Exhibition EventsAs part of Minor Transitions, there will be accompanying events including a panel discussion, focusing on the achievements of, and the opportunities available to young people.
